Saint Rose (20-7) chalked up a 101-93 overtime victory against visiting Saint Anselm in this season's lone meeting between the two schools back on January 15. The Golden Knights outscored their guests 19-11 throughout the extra session after the Hawks (19-8) had come from seven down with 6:45 remaining in regulation. Junior guard
Shea Bromirski scored nine of his team-leading 26 points in OT by knocking down a trey and going 6-for-6 from the foul line during the final 46 seconds to pace the Golden Knights.
Fourth-seed Saint Rose, which earned a first-round bye after finishing among the top-four teams in the final regular-season standings, is coming off of last Wednesday's 80-59 victory against visiting Le Moyne. Saint Rose ran off 23 unanswered points to rally from a five point, second half deficit.
The Golden Knights have had four players averaging double-figures in scoring all year, which has helped them produce a league leading 77.9 points. Junior first-team All-Conference guard
Rob Gutierrez leads the way with 18.7 points and 2.0 steals per-outing.
Gutierrez is followed by Bromirski, a third-team All-Conference selection for the second straight year, and sophomore guard
Andre Pope. Bromirski and Pope are averaging 15.7 and 12.9 points respectively, and have knocked down a collective 130 shots from the arc this season. The latter is also sixth in the NE-10 with a team-leading 4.1 assists per-outing. Junior forward
Brian Hanuschak completes the double-figure scorers by averaging 10.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per-game, the league's eighth best mark.
Meanwhile, fifth-seed Saint Anselm advanced with Saturday's 77-61 first-round win against visiting Assumption in Manchester, NH. The Hawks have now won two straight, after dropping their previous three. They are 12-1 at home, but 5-7 on the road.
Saint Anselm has both the NE-10 Player of the Year in senior guard Thomas Baudinet and the conference's Rookie of the Year in freshman forward Allen Harris at its disposal. Baudinet is averaging a league-leading 22.0 points per-game. He also hauls in 5.2 rebounds on a regular basis. Harris is good for 17.2 points and 6.4 boards per-game, while junior forward Jack Keough contributes 12.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per-outing.
Tickets for the game are $7 for adults, $4 for children, seniors and Saint Rose ID holders, and $1 for students from other NE-10 institutions. Tickets are free for any Saint Rose student with a valid Saint Rose student ID. All tickets will be available at the door, approximately one hour prior to tip-off.
