GOLDEN KNIGHTS SWEEP LE MOYNE IN BATTLE OF 'UPSTATE CHALLENGE'; GOODALE COLLECTS 200TH WIN

Junior middle hitter Kaitlyn Jasnica (left) recorded a season-high 12 kills in tonight's 3-0 win at Le Moyne
SYRACUSE – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team overcame a pair of three-point deficits throughout the first two sets and then took the lead for good early in the third set on the way to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-17) Northeast-10 Conference victory at Le Moyne College tonight. The Golden Knights thus remained one of three unbeaten teams (New Haven and Stonehill) in league action and head coach Brian Goodale earned the 200th win of his 13-year career on Western Avenue.

Saint Rose also grabbed another point in the year-long 'Upstate Challenge', a series in which the two schools will square off in 14 sports in which the schools compete head-to-head in the regular season or during the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The winner of the series will be awarded the first 'Upstate Challenge' trophy.

Senior outside hitter Aubrey Bobo and junior middle hitter Kaitlyn Jasnica paved the way for the Golden Knights (9-4/4-0 NE-10). Bobo wound up with 13 kills, six digs and hit .400, while Jasnica registered a season-high 12 kills and hit .348.

Freshman libero Katy Daniels continued her solid play in the back for Saint Rose with 13 digs. Meanwhile, her twin sister, Tori Daniels, added 13 assists and seven digs.

The Dolphins (10-6/1-3 NE-10) were led by junior middle hitter Morgan McDermott and junior outside hitter Bethany Fabian. McDermott finished with 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage, while Fabian added eight kills and five digs.

The Golden Knights trailed 13-10 in set one before Jasnica sparked an 8-4 run with a kill that allowed Saint Rose to take an 18-17 edge. Three ties and two lead changes ensued until Jasnica teamed up with sophomore middle hitter Alex Gagliano for a block that broke a 20-20 deadlock. The Golden Knights score four of the next five points to win the opening frame 25-21.

Saint Rose again found itself down 11-8 in set two until Jasnica put the Golden Knights on top 13-12 with another kill. It was a see-saw battle again, but senior outside hitter Sarah Kahrs made it a 16-15 affair with a kill of her own that put Saint Rose on top for good on the way to a 25-23 triumph.

Set three proved to be less dramatic. The Golden Knights raced out to an 8-2 lead they would not relinquish following back-to-back kills by Jasnica and Kahrs. Le Moyne managed to get to within two, 18-16, following a kill by junior right side hitter Danielle Fetsch. However, Saint Rose reeled off seven of the next eight points to close out a 25-17 victory.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose remains on road for a league match at Pace University at noon Saturday in Pleasantville, NY. Meanwhile, Le Moyne heads to Adelphi University for a pair of matches. The Dolphins take on the host Panthers at 11:00 am in a conference contest, before taking on Queens College in a non-league affair at 1:00 pm.
