RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit and was one point away from completing a furious comeback in the deciding fifth set, but host Franklin Pierce University proved its mettle down the stretch to secure a 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 20-18) Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights today.
Saint Rose (11-8/6-4 NE-10) has now been forced to play all five sets throughout its past four matches. The Golden Knights have gone 1-3 over that span. Meanwhile, the Ravens (10-10/4-5 NE-10) snapped a mild two-match skid while getting back to a .500 overall record.
As for today, senior outside hitters
Aubrey Bobo and
Sarah Kahrs combined for two-thirds of the total kills for Saint Rose. Bobo threw down 21 kills for the second straight match, while Kahrs chalked up a season-high 20 kills to go along with 11 digs.
The Golden Knights were again paced in the back row by freshman libero
Katy Daniels and freshman defensive specialist
Tori Daniels. Katy picked up 26 digs, while Tori handed out 20 assists and came up with 17 digs of her own. Freshman setter
Ariana Wilson passed out 27 assists as well.
Franklin Pierce sophomore right side hitter Natasha Ray led a balanced attack for the Ravens. Ray paved the way with 16 kills, while freshman outside hitter Catie Swiderski and sophomore middle hitter Katie Jackson contributed 14 and 12 kills respectively.
Additionally, Swiderski and Ray combined for 34 digs.
Up next, Saint Rose returns home next Friday to close out the home portion of its 2011 schedule. The Golden Knights play host to Saint Anselm College at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce hits the court again tomorrow as the Ravens are set to host Le Moyne College at 1:00 pm.
