ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team could not overcome 18 service errors as visiting Bentley University grabbed a 3-2 (11-25, 27-25, 25-22, 12-25, 15-11) Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Falcons snapped a five-match skid in the process, while Saint Rose is winless in its last two contests.
The Golden Knights (10-6/5-2 NE-10) received a big night from senior outside hitter
Aubrey Bobo. Bobo threw down a season-high 22 kills to lead all players. She did so while hitting .442 and picking up eight digs and five blocks. Fellow senior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs chipped in 12 kills and five digs as well.
Freshmen libero
Katy Daniels and defensive specialist
Tori Daniels once again sparked the back row for Saint Rose. Katy chalked up a season-best 24 digs, while her twin sister Tori added 18 assists and 10 digs.
Bentley (9-10/4-3 NE-10) was led by freshman outside hitter Kelsey Buckner. Buckner wound up with 14 kills, 12 digs and three blocks to deliver a solid all-around performance. Meanwhile, freshman setter Alex Tator handed out 29 assists to go along with nine digs and three kills.
It appeared the Golden Knights had things in control after a convincing 25-11 triumph in set one. Saint Rose never trailed and capitalized on 10 attack errors by the Falcons while committing only one mistake of its own in 22 attempts.
However, Bentley bounced back with a slim 27-25 decision in set two. Freshman middle hitter Savannah Dominguez evened things 25-25 with a kill. Junior middle hitter Grace Conner followed with a kill of her own and Dominguez finished things off with an ace.
The third set was won by the Falcons in similar fashion. Buckner recorded back-to-back kills that provided a 22-21 edge. Bentley then took advantage of a Saint Rose attack error and then another Buckner kill preceded an ace by freshman libero Lauren Colasanti to cap things.
Set four was very much like the first set for the Golden Knights. They trailed only once before opening up a 10-3 margin following a kill by Bobo. Bobo then helped close things out with a pair of kills and teamed up with sophomore middle hitter
Alex Gagliano for a block.
The fifth and deciding frame saw Conner give the Falcons an 8-6 edge as the two clubs changed sides. Bentley never relinquished its lead, taking advantage of two Saint Rose attack errors combined with a service error down the stretch to end its skid.
Both squads return to action tomorrow afternoon with a pair of NE-10 matches on the schedule. Saint Rose is set to host Stonehill College, while Bentley continues its trek west to take on Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Both contests will begin at 1:00 pm.
