ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team returns to action this afternoon when the Golden Knights (7-4/2-0 NE-10) host Adelphi University (8-3/2-0 NE-10) in a meeting between two squads that are unbeaten in Northeast-10 Conference play. The match is set to begin at 1:00 pm at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
LAST MEETING (September 26, 2010)
Saint Rose dug itself a 2-0 hole and host Adelphi University went on to defeat the Golden Knights 3-1 (13-25, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25) in a Northeast-10 Conference match last September 26 at the Center for Recreation and Sport. Four players came up with double-digit dig totals for Saint Rose. Sophomore outside hitter
Christina Strezenec led the defensive unit with 24 digs. Meanwhile, senior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs finished with 13 digs and seven kills. Junior outside hitter
Kayleigh Quinn paced the front row with 12 kills. Adelphi outside hitter Hilary Pavels was one of four Panthers in double-figures in kills. Pavels wound up with 16 kills and 12 digs.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE (7-4/2-0 NE-10)
The Golden Knights are winless in two straight following a season-long seven-match win streak. Head coach
Brian Goodale is on the brink of collecting the 200th victory of his 13-year career as the Saint Rose mentor. Goodale currently has 198 wins.
The Golden Knights are hitting a collective .183, which ranks sixth in the NE-10, while holding their foes to a .138 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter
Aubrey Bobo paces Saint Rose and is third in the league in both kills per-set (3.34) and hitting percentage (.338). Meanwhile, Kahrs has produced a team-best 119 kills and is 11th in the league behind 2.83 kills per-set.
Freshman libero
Katy Daniels has piloted the defensive unit thus far. Daniels leads the squad and stands second in the conference with 4.21 digs per-set (177 digs). She has also served up a team-high 17 aces. The Golden Knights are looking to snap a mild three-match skid against Adelphi this afternoon.
SCOUTING ADELPHI (8-3/2-0 NE-10)
The Panthers have reeled off six straight wins heading into today. Adelphi went five matches without dropping a set prior to Tuesday's 3-2 win versus C.W. Post. Adelphi currently ranks third in the NE-10 with 11.92 kills per-set and 15.36 digs per-set.
Junior outside hitter Chelsea Overholt has sparked the offense for the Panthers thus far. Overholt is ninth in the conference with 3.04 kills per-set. Meanwhile, senior libero Bianca Hernandez has picked up 125 digs (3.47 d/s) to lead the defense.
UP NEXT
Both squads return to action Tuesday night with a pair of league matches on the schedule. Saint Rose heads to upstate rival Le Moyne College, while Adelphi returns home to host Pace University. Both matches are slated to start at 7:00 pm.
