ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose turned 21 Franklin Pierce miscues into 33 points and senior guard
Lynsey Timbrouck registered her second “double-double” within the past three games to lead the Golden Knights past the 24th ranked Ravens 79-74 today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
After shooting a season-high 50.0 percent (22-for-44) in Wednesday's 72-67 triumph at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's, the Golden Knights kept up their hot shooting with their second best effort by burying 48.3 percent (28-for-58) of their chances. The Ravens (10-5/6-3 NE-10) were even better. They converted 58.5 percent (31-for-53) of their opportunities by scoring 58 of their 74 points in the paint, but were hurt by their turnovers and 18.2 percent (2-for-11) shooting from the arc.
Timbrouck finished with career-highs of 21 points and seven steals to go with 10 assists for the Golden Knights (10-3/6-3 NE-10) who have now won six of their last seven. She furthermore went 6-for-8 from the floor and logged the entire 40 minutes.
The game was close throughout with eight ties and six lead changes, although Saint Rose never trailed in the second half.
Saint Rose led by as many as nine, 47-38, when junior guard
Ola Shajuyigbe hit a jumper with 15:14 to go. However, Franklin Pierce responded with a 16-7 run throughout the next seven minutes that afforded the game its sixth deadlock, 54-54, with 8:53 remaining after freshman guard Brooke Coderre knocked down a 3-pointer.
It was still tied at 58-58 a minute later when junior guard
Ashley Rath put the Golden Knights ahead to stay with a jumper. Saint Rose went back up by seven, 69-62, following a Timbrouck jumper with 4:36 showing on the clock, but the Ravens made one last push to get within a pair, 74-72, in the final minute. Junior center Jewel White finished inside and converted a three-point play after Saint Rose came up empty on the other end.
It was not enough though as Saint Rose went 5-for-6 from the stripe in the final 29 seconds to seal the victory.
Aside from Timbrouck, three others players finished in twin-figures for the Golden Knights. Rath tossed in 19 points, senior forward
Amy Voelkel went 5-for-6 from the field en route to 13 points and Shajuyigbe finished with 11.
White had a “double-double” of her own for Franklin Pierce behind 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore forward Amanda Saab finished with 16 points, four boards and four assists in 17 minutes off the bench. Junior forward Marielle Giroud added 11 points.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are on the road Wednesday for a 5:30 pm tip-off at league rival Southern New Hampshire in Manchester. Franklin Pierce on the other hand gets back to action Tuesday with a 5:30 pm conference date at New Haven.
