AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL HOLDS OFF SAINT ROSE 47-45

Junior forward Brian Hanuschak led the Golden Knights with 16 points and nine rebounds
SPRINGFIELD, MA – Sophomore guard Andre Pope's runner at the buzzer fell off the mark and host American International College pulled off a 47-45 victory over The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team this evening at Butova Gymnasium. The Golden Knights, who were playing their first game in two weeks, had their three-game win streak come to a halt.

Saint Rose had three chances to take the lead throughout the final two minutes. Trailing 46-45 after a layup by junior forward Brian Hanuschak, the Golden Knights committed a costly turnover on their next possession but got back-to-back stops on the defensive end. Junior guard Shea Bromirski, who entered the game ranked third in the NE-10 with an 86.7 free throw percentage, missed the front end of a one-and-one, which preceded Pope's attempt as the clock ran out.

Hanuschak led Saint Rose with 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Bromirski ended up with 12 points, five assists and a like number of boards.

Junior guard Isiah Wallace led a balanced attack for the Yellow Jackets (10-2/6-1 NE-10) with nine points and nine caroms. Sophomore guard Ricky Hudson also contributed nine points off the bench.

The Golden Knights actually found themselves down by nine, 40-31, with 11:28 to go. However, freshman forward Dominykas Milka sparked a 10-0 run with back-to-back layups and Bromirski finished it off with a layup and a 3-pointer to give Saint Rose a 41-40 edge with 8:19 left.

Both clubs combined for a mere four field goals the rest of the way. The Golden Knights shot just 26.7 percent (8-for-30) throughout the final 20 minutes, while American International hit 30.0 percent (6-for-20) of its opportunities over that span.

A pair of conference games are on the schedule Wednesday night for both squads. Saint Rose heads to Saint Michael's College, while the Yellow Jackets travel to Merrimack College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
