SAINT ROSE CRUISES TO 68-46 WIN OVER SAINT ANSELM

Junior guard Ashley Rath buried a career-high eight, 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team tied its season-high by shooting 50.0 percent (25-for-50) from the floor and led wire-to-wire in a 68-46 Northeast-10 Conference victory against Saint Anselm College today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (11-4/7-4 NE-10) have now won seven of their last nine and have taken eight consecutive meetings against the Hawks.

Junior guard Ashley Rath eclipsed the 20-point mark for the sixth time this year on the strength of a career-high eight, 3-pointers. Rath finished with 28 points on 10-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds. Senior forward Amy Voelkel wound up with 11 points and seven caroms, while senior guard Lynsey Timbrouck was her usual solid self with 10 points, nine assists and five boards.

Timbrouck furthermore embedded her name in the Saint Rose record books. She registered the 512th assist of her career to move past Mary Lewis ('07) for the school's all-time lead. Timbrouck is one of only three players in program history to register more than 500 assists.

Saint Anselm (6-9/3-8 NE-10) received 10 points in 15 minutes of reserve action from junior forward Megan Howard. Sophomore forward Curran Leighton delivered eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks as well.

The Golden Knights took control from the outset, running off eight straight points to start the game on the way to a 19-5 advantage at the 10:25 mark. Timbrouck hit two free throws, Voelkel and Rath followed with a pair of layups and Timbrouck drained a jumper to highlight the initial spurt. Rath then buried a trey from the corner that allowed Saint Rose to seize control.

The Hawks were hampered by 25 turnovers in the contest, which did not allow them to make a serious run at the Golden Knights. Saint Rose created a sizeable 27-point margin via a 13-6 jaunt midway through the second half to put things away. Five different players contributed during the run, which was punctuated by a jumper from junior forward Alison McGrath that made it a 59-32 affair with 7:34 left.

Both squads are back in action Wednesday night. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host Merrimack College, while Saint Anselm heads to Southern Connecticut State University. Both games are set for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
