#3 SAINT ROSE CONTINUES SCORING PARADE IN 7-0 WIN OVER MERCY

Junior midfielder Brittany Godin tallied twice, including the game-winner in the eighth minute of today's 7-0 victory
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team continued its offensive onslaught this autumn by upending Mercy College 7-0 in a non-league affair in front of an outstanding Labor Day crowd at Dr. R. Mark and Kathleen Sullivan Field at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights (2-0-0), ranked #3 in the NSCAA/Adidas Division II preseason poll, scored four times throughout a 15:06 span early in the second period to break open a 3-0 game at the break. Saint Rose controlled the pace throughout and wound up outshooting the Mavericks (1-1-0) by a 27-1 margin. The Golden Knights also produced 11 corner kicks, and yielded only one.

Freshman forward Carmelina Puopolo had two goals and an assist to lead the Saint Rose scoring parade. Junior midfielder Brittany Godin also tallied twice while being credited with the eventual game-winner. Godin found herself in the right position to clean up a rebound that Mercy sophomore keeper Stephanie DeLegge had initially turned aside following a hard shot by Saint Rose junior forward Nicola D'Errico.

D'Errico found the back of the net later in the match as did senior midfielder Amanda Deck and junior midfielder Kimberly Morton.

Senior keeper Deanna Esposito did not need to make a save to preserve her fourth shutout in five career starts for the Golden Knights. DeLegge came up with 12 saves between the posts for the Mavericks.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose opens its 2010 league slate Friday night when the Golden Knights travel to UMass Lowell. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. Mercy remains on the road for another non-league affair at 3:30 pm Thursday at Dominican College.
