NEW HAVEN, CT – Host Southern Connecticut State University scored three times in each half on the way to a 6-0 Northeast-10 Conference triumph over The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team tonight. The Owls, who are ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA/HendrickCars.com East Region Poll, have now won three in a row.
Freshman forward Doural Scott and junior forward Cedric Panzu each had a part in four tallies for Southern. Scott finished with one goal and added an assist, while Panzu recorded his first two strikes of the 2010 campaign. Sophomore midfielder Ross McGibney, senior forward Harry Appiah and freshman forward Ariel Lobo also found the back of the net for the Owls (7-1/5-1 NE-10).
Scott scored what held up as the game-winner in the 28th minute and then set up Panzu's first goal of the contest just less than 10 minutes into the second period. Panzu later capped the scoring for Southern with a marker in the 75th.
The Golden Knights (1-6-1/0-5-0 NE-10) put three of their five shots on target, but to no avail.
Junior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson came up with four saves for Saint Rose, while junior keeper Andrew Esposito made three stops to preserve his third shutout of the year for the Owls.
Both squads return to league action this Saturday. Saint Rose travels to Bentley University for a noon match in Waltham, MA, while Southern heads to #11 Franklin Pierce University for a 7:00 pm kick off in Rindge, NH.
