ALBANY – The nation's most prolific offense was in full bloom tonight as The College of Saint Rose handed visiting Queens College a 7-1 non-conference defeat at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
The Golden Knights, who are ranked #1 for the third consecutive week according to the most recent
NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II Poll that was released earlier today, came into the contest averaging 4.0 goals per-outing, but nearly doubled that as 11 players etched their names into the scoring column. Meanwhile, senior
Deanna Esposito and sophomore
Susan Cowan each played a half between the posts and faced just four shots-on-goal collectively.
Saint Rose on the other hand engineered 18 shots, including 12 on-target, and 10 corner kicks; while yielding only three to Queens.
Junior forward Gianna D'Errico notched her team-leading sixth and seventh strikes of the year, freshman forward
Carmelina Puopolo finished with a goal and two assists, and senior midfielder
Jaclyn Evans had a goal and one helper to pace the prolific Golden Knights (9-0) offense that has now outscored its opponents by a 39-3 margin this autumn.
Junior midfielder
Kimberly Morton and senior forward
Kristen Bidosky also scored, as did sophomore
Marisah Case who registered her first career tally via the game's final marker in the 86th minute. Meanwhile, senior midfielder
Amanda Deck picked up a pair of assists.
Senior midfielder Laura D'Amore accounted for the lone Queens (5-4) strike with 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
The game initially appeared to have the makings of a low scoring affair. It remained scoreless until the 25th minute when D'Errico finished a feed through the box by senior back
Kelly Guerin. Morton and Evans then struck less than two minutes apart to afford Saint Rose a 3-0 advantage at the break. D'Errico found the back of the net again in the 53rd minute, before Bidosky and Puopolo scored in the 72nd and 74th minute respectively to make it 6-0 Saint Rose.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose opens the second half of its regular-season slate with a 1:00 pm date at Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill in Easton, MA on Saturday. Queens meanwhile gets back to its East Coast Conference docket Saturday when Mercy College arrives in Flushing for a noon kickoff.
