ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose outshot visiting Saint Anselm (1-5-1/1-3-1 NE-10) by a 15-13 margin and owned a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but the visiting Hawks produced the game's lone strike early in the second half to upend the Golden Knights 1-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference match this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Junior midfielder Keesen Howe headed a pass near the edge of the area to junior forward Justin Labonte who drove a shot that caromed off the left post and into the goal for the game's lone strike.
The best Saint Rose (1-5-1/0-4-0 NE-10) opportunity to draw even came in the 65th minute when junior midfielder
Taras Panchishak got his head on a ball that forced Saint Anselm sophomore keeper Eric Moriarty to be on his toes. Senior midfielder
Liam Barrett then drilled a shot-on-target off a set piece from 25-yards out in the waning moments that also tested Moriarty, who nevertheless came up with the save to keep the Golden Knights off the board.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to return to the pitch Tuesday. Saint Rose has a 7:00 pm meeting at NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, while the Hawks have a 4:00 pm non-conference home date with C.W. Post in Manchester, NH.
