WORCESTER, MA – The College of Saint Rose completed its season-opening weekend by winning its second road match in as many days behind a 6-3 triumph at Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption this afternoon. The Golden Knights (2-0/2-0 NE-10) won two of three doubles contests, and took four of the six singles competitions.

Sophomore Jennifer Crego, and seniors Missy Leighton and Kimberly Schacher won both their singles and doubles matches to pace Saint Rose.

Crego and Schacher came away with an 8-5 victory at the second doubles flight against the Assumption (0-1/0-1 NE-10) duo of senior Grace Fox and freshman Paige Gilet. In the first flight, Leighton and junior Erin Reeg upended sophomore Erica Micciche and freshman Meghan Hall 8-4.

Crego later earned a point at the top singles flight after Micciche was forced to retire in the second set with Crego leading 6-1, 1-0. Leighton meanwhile handed Fox a 6-3, 6-0 defeat in the second singles flight.

Schacher defeated Gilet 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth flight, while sophomore Stephanie Wilhelm upended Assumption sophomore Allie Plack 6-2, 6-4 to earn a point for the Golden Knights at sixth singles.

Up next, Saint Rose is scheduled to visit NE-10 rival Bentley one week from today for a 1:00 pm match in Waltham, MA. Meanwhile, Assumption visits Bentley on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
