GOLDEN KNIGHTS CLOSE OUT 2010 CAMPAIGN AT BENTLEY

Sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt went 3-for-6 with two triples throughout today's doubleheader at Bentley.
WALTHAM, MA – The College of Saint Rose closed out its 2010 campaign this afternoon with a pair of setbacks at Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University. The Golden Knights fell 7-2 in the opener, and dropped the nightcap 5-3.

Sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt went 3-for-6 with two triples and a pair of RBI on the day for Saint Rose (11-29/9-21 NE-10).

Bentley got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener and then added four runs in the fourth, before Saint Rose scored twice in the fifth. Butterbrodt lined a leadoff triple to left and scored on a throwing error. Senior first baseman Lauren Ruggerio then came through with a base hit to right field that scored junior left fielder Katie Ives, who had reached one batter earlier on a fielder's choice.

However, Bentley sophomore right-hander Tara Fogarty struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam. The Falcons (14-24/11-19 NE-10) then tacked on a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth to account for the final margin.

The Golden Knights took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap when sophomore second baseman Kayla Kuilema doubled to left field and then came around on an RBI base hit by junior catcher Nikki Woodard. Butterbrodt then followed with a single that scored Woodard from second.

The host Falcons responded with five runs in the fifth inning that put them in the driver's seat. A grand slam by designated player Chanelle Morse accounted for most of the damage.

Saint Rose got one back in the sixth on Butterbrodt's second triple of the day that scored Kuilema, who had opened the inning with a base hit to right. However, Saint Rose went in order in the seventh.

Kuilema, Woodard and Butterbrodt had two hits apiece for the Golden Knights, while sophomore third baseman Jasmine Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a run scored to pace Bentley.
