NEW HAVEN, CT – Host Southern Connecticut State rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth en route to a 5-2 win that allowed the host Owls to complete a sweep of The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today. Southern Connecticut State (18-8/6-2 NE-10) took the opener 8-0 that by rule was completed after five innings.
Sophomore left-hander
Sarah Arbogast scattered five hits, fanned four and allowed only one earned run in the finale. Junior right fielder
Meg Rios, junior designated player
Nicole Traylor, sophomore third baseman
Jessica Butterbrodt and sophomore center fielder
Courtney Galuski had one hit apiece for the Golden Knights (3-15/1-7 NE-10).
Senior center fielder Julianne Flood went 1-for-3 with a two-run double that provided most of the damage for the Owls in sixth.
Saint Rose scored twice in the third when Traylor smacked a two-out, bases loaded single that scored senior shortstop
Ashley Anderson and Galuski. However, Southern Connecticut State cut its deficit in half two innings later when freshman right fielder Brittany Bucko belted an RBI triple.
In the opener, Southern Connecticut State scored four runs in the first and four more in the second to provide more than enough breathing room for sophomore pitcher Jayme Larson who allowed just one hit and fanned seven throughout 5.0 innings.
Up next, both teams are back on the diamond Saturday with 1:00 pm home league doubleheaders. Saint Rose is scheduled to host Saint Anselm, while Southern Connecticut State will entertain Merrimack.
