GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TWICE TO SURGING UMASS LOWELL

Sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt belted her fourth home run of the year in today's opener versus UMass Lowell.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose suffered losses in both ends of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to a surging UMass Lowell ballclub that has now won seven of its last nine encounters. The visiting River Hawks (20-21/12-10 NE-10) won the opener 8-2 and took the nightcap 4-0.

Sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt, the reigning NE-10 Player of the Week, went 2-for-3 and belted her fourth home run of the year to lead the Golden Knights in the first game. Freshman second baseman Krista MacKenzie, freshman third baseman Brianna Mahoney, and sophomore right-hander Elyssa Boris had two hits apiece to pace UMass Lowell's 11-hit attack.

The River Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third and expanded their advantage to 8-1 in the sixth, before Butterbrodt's round-tripper in the seventh.

In the finale, UMass Lowell broke open a 1-0 ballgame by scoring three times in the fifth inning that provided enough breathing room for freshman right-hander Alyssa Bryan who allowed only three hits over the distance to run her record to 10-8 on the season.

Butterbrodt, sophomore center fielder Courtney Galuski and junior catcher Nikki Woodard each had a single for the Golden Knights.

Up next, Saint Rose returns home to the Plumeri Sports Complex tomorrow to host NE-10 rival Merrimack. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell continues its weekend trip west on the New York Thruway for Sunday's noon league twin-bill at Le Moyne.
