SAINT ROSE RALLIES IN SEVENTH INNING OF NIGHTCAP TO EARN A SPLIT AT ADELPHI

Senior first baseman Lauren Ruggerio drove home the winning run with a two-out, three RBI double in today's finale at Adelphi.
GARDEN CITY, NY – The College of Saint Rose rallied from an 8-6 deficit with two outs in the seventh by pushing across four runs en route to a 10-8 victory in the nightcap of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Adelphi today. The Golden Knights (9-21/7-13 NE-10) unfortunately could not get the tying run in from second and thus the host Panthers (22-18/10-10 NE-10) were able to take the opener 5-4.

Senior first baseman Lauren Ruggerio lined a three run double to deep center field that scored the winning run in the finale. Sophomore outfielder Courtney Galuski followed with a base hit that brought across Ruggerio with an insurance run.

Junior catcher Nikki Woodard ignited the rally with a one out base hit. Two batters later, sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt delivered a two-out single and then freshman pinch hitter Steph Luce drew a walk, after the count had gone full, to load the bases for Ruggerio.

Ruggerio wound up 2-for-3 with a single and sacrifice fly to go along with her double.

In the opener, Saint Rose rebounded from a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth. Adelphi then added one more in the home half of the frame and another in the sixth to go up 5-3. The Golden Knights got one back in the seventh via an RBI base hit by junior left fielder Katie Ives, but Adelphi junior left-hander Leighann Bell induced a ground out to end the ballgame.

Ives doubled to right field and Butterbrodt belted a two run single to left-center, before junior right-hander Nicole Traylor slapped an RBI base hit through the left side to highlight the Saint Rose fourth. Ives wound up 2-for-4, while senior center fielder Rochelle Noren went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI for the Panthers.

Up next, Saint Rose returns home to the Plumeri Sports Complex Saturday to host NE-10 rival UMass Lowell. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, Adelphi has a 3:00 pm home non-league twin-bill versus Dowling tomorrow.
