COLCHESTER, VT – The College of Saint Rose got out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning en route to a 7-3 victory in the opener and then scored 16 runs on 22 hits in a 16-0 victory in the nightcap of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Saint Michael's College today.
Sophomore third baseman
Jessica Butterbrodt homered in each game and finished the day 7-for-7 with six runs scored for the Golden Knights (7-19/5-11 NE-10), who scored their five runs on three hits and two Saint Michael's errors in the first.
Butterbrodt finished 3-for-3 and senior shortstop
Ashley Anderson went 3-for-4 to lead the Saint Rose charge in the first game. Meanwhile, junior right-hander
Nicole Traylor allowed only one earned run on six hits and a like number of strikeouts to up her record to 4-2 on the year.
As for Saint Michael's (8-18/3-13 NE-10), junior right fielder Meghan Colitti went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
In the finale, the Golden Knights scored five times in the second, once in the third, seven times in the fourth and three more times in the fifth to account for their 16 runs.
Butterbrodt went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two more RBI, while Anderson finished 2-for-5 with a leadoff home run in the fourth. Furthermore, junior catcher
Nikki Woodard wound up 4-for-5 and senior first baseman
Lauren Ruggerio had a two-RBI double and a home run for the Golden Knights. Sophomore second baseman
Kayla Kuilema and junior left fielder
Katie Ives also finished with two hits each.
Meanwhile, sophomore left-hander
Sarah Arbogast allowed a mere two hits and whiffed six throughout the 5.0 inning distance to chalk up her third win of the year.
Up next, Saint Rose is scheduled to make-up Saturday's doubleheader at Franklin Pierce tomorrow. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm in Rindge, NH. As for Saint Michael's, the Purple Knights are scheduled to make-up yesterday's conference twin-bill versus Le Moyne at 3:30 pm Monday.
