ARBOGAST TOSSES GEM TO HELP GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT

Senior shortstop Ashley Anderson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in game two
ALBANY – Sophomore left-hander Sarah Arbogast fired 6.1 innings of shutout ball and allowed a mere three hits to propel The College of Saint Rose softball team to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over visiting Southern New Hampshire University today at the Plumeri Complex. The Golden Knights (4-18/2-10 NE-10) snapped a 10-game slide in the process after dropping game one 7-1.

Arbogast, who picked up her first win of the year, did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and retired one batter in the seventh before giving way to sophomore right-hander Courtney Galuski. Galuski promptly induced back-to-back ground balls to earn the save.

Saint Rose took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior shortstop Ashley Anderson belted a solo shot over the left field wall. The Golden Knights then added some insurance in the sixth when junior right fielder Meg Rios slapped an RBI single and senior first baseman Lauren Ruggerio scored on a passed ball.

Anderson wound up 3-for-4, while sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt went 2-for-3 to lead the Saint Rose offense. Freshman left fielder Cristy Jenkins finished 2-for-3 to pace the Penmen (8-14/5-7 NE-10).

In game one, Ruggerio and Rios combined for four of the Golden Knights' six hits. Ruggerio was 2-for-3 with an RBI double, while Rios finished 2-for-4 with two singles.

The Penmen received a pair of 3-for-4 performances from freshman center fielder Kate Stanley and junior catcher Elena Anderson. Stanley led off the game with a home run and scored twice in the contest, while Anderson had a run, double and RBI.

Southern New Hampshire broke open a 3-1 ballgame with four runs in the sixth inning to take charge. Stanley, Anderson and senior first baseman Melissa Pessotti each had RBI singles and Jenkins added a sacrifice fly to cap the frame.

Sophomore right-hander Jen Garloff surrendered one run, scattered six hits and fanned three in a complete game effort for the Penmen. Meanwhile, Galuski allowed three hits, two earned runs and had a pair of strikeouts throughout the first 3.0 innings of work for Saint Rose.

The Golden Knights are set to embark on an eight-game road trip beginning Thursday afternoon when they head to Pace University for a 3:00 pm NE-10 doubleheader in Pleasantville, NY. Southern New Hampshire returns home Tuesday when it hosts cross-town rival Saint Anselm College for a pair of league games beginning at 3:00 pm in Manchester, NH.
