#24 NEW HAVEN TOO MUCH FOR SAINT ROSE

Sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt gave Saint Rose a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in game two
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose softball team survived a no-hit scare in the opener by generating one of its own in game two, but the University of New Haven walked away with a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Chargers (14-2/4-0 NE-10), ranked 24th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll, took a 5-0 win in game one and broke open a 1-1 ballgame with a seven-run seventh to earn an 8-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Senior shortstop Ashley Anderson and junior right-hander Nicole Traylor each went 1-for-3 for Saint Rose (3-11/1-3 NE-10) in the opener. Anderson belted her team-leading sixth double of the year in the sixth, while Traylor broke up a no-hit bid by New Haven senior right-hander Breanne Gleason with a fourth inning single.

Gleason retired the first 11 Saint Rose batters en route to a complete game, two-hit shutout. She fanned six, walked none and also went 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs. Meanwhile, senior third baseman Nicole Downs was 2-for-2, including a two-run homer.

Gleason got the Chargers on the board after scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first. Senior first baseman Gabby Cruz made it a 3-0 affair with a two-run single in the fourth and Downs provided the final margin behind her fifth home run of the year an inning later.

In game two, sophomore lefty Sarah Arbogast had a no-hitter going for the Golden Knights through 5.2 innings. However, Cruz broke things up with a double to center field in the sixth and then New Haven put up seven runs on four hits in the seventh to put things out of reach. Arbogast scattered five hits and fanned seven over the distance.

Gleason wound up with her 12th win of the season after firing 3.0 innings of no-hit ball in relief of freshman right-hander Keri Tricinelli. Tricinelli allowed three hits and an unearned run throughout 4.0 innings of work.

The Golden Knights broke a scoreless tie thanks to an RBI single by sophomore third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt. Sophomore second baseman Kayla Kuilema reached on an error with two outs to extend the frame. Traylor followed with an infield single and Butterbrodt plated Kuilema via a single to left.

New Haven knotted things at 1-1 in the fifth. Sophomore right fielder Shannon Angehr walked to lead things off and freshman shortstop Christina Gelardi reached on an error. After Gleason moved both runners up a base on a sacrifice bunt, Downs was walked and junior first baseman Chelsea Harold delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Angehr.

In the seventh, the first three batters reached base for the Chargers via two singles and an intentional walk. Tricinelli then singled to right with one out and New Haven never looked back. Gelardi capped off the seven-run outburst with a two-run single to help the Chargers win their 10th straight.

Saint Rose returns to action Tuesday afternoon when the Golden Knights head to Pace University for a 3:00 pm league doubleheader in Pleasantville, NY. New Haven gets back to the diamond Wednesday in a non-league twin-bill at Caldwell College beginning at 3:00 pm.
