SPRINGFIELD, MA – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team was held to a mere six field goals in the second half that contributed to its worst scoring output of the year in a 60-44 loss at American International College this afternoon. The Golden Knights (11-11/10-7 NE) furthermore shot a season-low 27.1 percent (16-for-59) from the floor, including a 2-for-15 effort from the arc.
Sophomore forward
Ali Johnson and sophomore guard
Ashley Rath were the lone players in double-figures for Saint Rose with 11 points apiece. Johnson also contributed eight rebounds and two blocks, while Rath hauled in five boards.
Three players found twin-figures for the Yellow Jackets (8-14/6-11 NE-10), who won for just the second time in eight outings. Senior guard Kristin Boesenberg led all scorers with 14 points, while junior guard Adriana Johnson and sophomore guard Michelle Lafond added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The first period ended on a high note for the Golden Knights as they pieced together a 13-2 run that transformed a six point deficit into a five point, 30-25, cushion at the break. Johnson highlighted the run by finishing in the paint and adding a conventional three-point play that put Saint Rose up one. Rath then added a jumper and sophomore guard
Adrianna Gaeta closed out the scoring in the half with a bucket of her own.
American International came out of the locker room and reeled off 12 unanswered points to go up seven, 37-30. Rath ended the jaunt with a layup, but the Golden Knights were held to just one field goal throughout the next 9:02 that afforded the Yellow Jackets a comfortable 54-35 margin with a little less than three minutes remaining in the contest.
Saint Rose and American International return to Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday night with a pair of home games on tap. The Golden Knights are set to welcome Adelphi University, while Le Moyne College visits Springfield. Both contests are set to tip-off at 5:30 pm.
