SAINT ROSE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT IN 77-63 VICTORY AT LE MOYNE

Junior guard Ashley Rath fired in a career-high 33 points on the strength of six, 3-pointers to help Saint Rose win its third straight
SYRACUSE – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to upend upstate rival Le Moyne College 77-63 in a Northeast-10 Conference game tonight at Ted Grant Court. The Golden Knights (7-2/4-2 NE-10) have now won five in a row against the Dolphins, who remained winless in league play (0-6).

Junior guard Ashley Rath registered her second straight career-high performance with 33 points to lead three players in double-figures for Saint Rose. Rath tied her career-best with six, 3-pointers and became the second player in three games to reach the 30-point plateau. Fellow junior guard Ola Shajuyigbe followed with 20 points and four assists, while junior forward Ali Johnson wound up with a season-high 12 points to go along with three boards.

Le Moyne (2-7/0-6 NE-10) also had three players find twin-digits led by forward Courtney Coryea. Coryea nearly missed a “double-double” with 20 points and eight caroms, while sophomore forward Emily Bayly and junior forward Katie Hart contributed 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Golden Knights found themselves down 36-29 at the break after shooting just 35.5 percent (11-for-31) from the field throughout the opening 20 minutes. However, Saint Rose opened the second stanza with a 17-8 run and took only its second lead of the game, 46-44, following a trey by Rath at the 14:27 mark.

Five more ties ensued over the next four minutes until Shajuyigbe ignited a 10-0 jaunt with a layup and a 3-pointer of her own. Timbrouck added a jumper, fed Rath in the paint and Johnson went 1-for-2 from the stripe to put the Golden Knights in control 65-55 with 5:20 to go. The Dolphins managed only one field goal, a long ball from freshman guard Bria Tiro, the remainder of the contest.

Saint Rose remedied things in the second half by draining 56.7 percent (17-for-30) of their opportunities from the floor while limiting Le Moyne to just eight field goals, including a 3-for-14 effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Knight furthermore generated 21 points off 16 turnovers by the Dolphins.

Saint Rose will have a 12-day layoff before returning to action. The Golden Knights will step out of conference on Sunday, December 19 when they head to the University of Bridgeport for a 1:30 pm matinee. Meanwhile, Le Moyne will look to snap its four-game skid with a non-conference date at Dominican College on Saturday, December 18 at 2:00 pm.
