SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT KNOCKS OFF SAINT ROSE AT BUZZER

Junior guard Shea Bromirski pumped in a career-high 32 points to lead Saint Rose tonight
ALBANY – Freshman guard Greg Langston completed a furious comeback by visiting Southern Connecticut State University with a layup at the buzzer to hand The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team an 85-83 setback in a Northeast-10 Conference contest today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (6-2/3-2 NE-10) allowed a 22-point second half lead to dissolve as the Owls defeated Saint Rose for the first time since 2003.

Regardless, junior guard Shea Bromirski fired in a career-high 32 points for the Golden Knights to go along with five assists. Junior forward Brian Hanuschak registered a “double-double” behind 15 points and 12 boards, while sophomore guard Andre Pope added 10 points in 26 minutes after being plagued by foul trouble.

Langston led three players in twin-figures for Southern Connecticut with 18 points, 14 in the second half. Senior guard Chazz McCarter and sophomore forward Trevon Hamlet had 13 points apiece.

Southern Connecticut (6-1/4-1 NE-10), which trailed the entire game until the final buzzer sounded, found itself down 72-50 with 9:44 left when sophomore forward Ante Cosic ignited the insurmountable charge with a 3-pointer. The Owls wound up outscoring the Golden Knights 35-11 the rest of the way.

Langston, who scored the final seven points of the game, knotted things at 83-83 following a 3-pointer from the wing with 21 seconds on the clock. Saint Rose still controlled its own destiny as Pope received the inbounds pass and went to the rim on the other end. However, his attempt was off the mark and Hamlet fed Langston with a full-court pass for the final dagger.

It appeared things would go the Golden Knights' way early on. Saint Rose walked into the locker room in control with a 50-31 lead at the break. The Golden Knights shot a season-high 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from the floor throughout the opening 20 minutes and raced out to an 18-8 lead at the 13:46 mark. Saint Rose maintained at least a double-digit advantage until McCarter converted in the paint with 5:01 left to set up the final push for Southern Connecticut.

Looking ahead, both clubs hit the hardwood again Tuesday night. The Golden Knights head west to Le Moyne College, while the Owls return home to host Assumption College. Both games are set to begin at 7:30 pm.
