BROMIRSKI POURS IN 30 TO KEEP SAINT ROSE UNBEATEN AT 5-0

Junior guard Shea Bromirski poured in a career-high 30 points to lead Saint Rose past Adelphi
ALBANY – Junior guard Shea Bromirski pumped in a career-high 30 points and The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team stayed unbeaten as the Golden Knights held off visiting Adelphi University 78-74 in a Northeast-10 Conference game tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Saint Rose is now 5-0 for the first time since 2006-07 and has taken four of the last six meetings against the Panthers, although it allowed a 20-point lead to evaporate tonight.

Bromirski played a major role this evening as he connected on 8-of-12 shots from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and buried 10-of-13 free throw attempts to reach the 30-point plateau for the first time in a Golden Knights uniform. Junior guard Rob Gutierrez was the only other player in double-figures for Saint Rose with 14 points.

Adelphi (3-1/1-1 NE-10) senior guard Richard Byrd was one of four players in twin-figures for the Panthers. Byrd nearly matched Bromirski basket for basket with 28 points to go along with eight rebounds. Junior guard Rob Johnson added 15 points as well.

It was a tale of two halves as Adelphi misfired on its first six shot attempts and committed seven turnovers in its first 13 possessions that allowed the Golden Knights to take an 18-4 lead in the early going. Bromirski and junior forward Brian Hanuschak combined for 15 of the first 18 Saint Rose points before Byrd ended the Panthers' drought with a jumper at the 12:37 mark.

The Golden Knights (5-0/2-0 NE-10) held at least a 14-point margin the rest of the way as they generated 23 points off 14 miscues by Adelphi and limited the Panthers to nine first half field goals to take a 46-29 lead at the break. Saint Rose was up 20 on two occasions and Bromirski had 23 points by halftime.

Adelphi methodically whittled away at its deficit throughout the first 13 minutes of the second stanza and finally got to within single digits, 68-61, following a 3-pointer by junior guard Richard Harkins with 7:08 on the clock. Junior guard RJ Samuels then completed the comeback, which came via a 16-4 run that covered a seven-minute span, with a tip-in to make it a 72-72 ballgame with 1:49 left.

Four different players helped seal things for the Golden Knights down the stretch. Sophomore guard Andre Pope knocked down a pair of free throws and Gutierrez went 1-for-2 to put Saint Rose in front 75-72 with 25 ticks left. Harkins then made two attempts of his own on the other end, but Bromirski answered with two more to again put the Golden Knights up three, 77-74. Saint Rose came up with a stop on the ensuring Adelphi possession and freshman forward Dominykas Milka provided the final margin with another charity shot in the waning moments.

Saint Rose wound up with just seven field goals throughout the final 20 minutes and turned the ball over 14 times. Meanwhile, the Panthers shot 55.2 percent (16-for-29) from the floor and had just seven mishaps of their own to make things interesting.

Looking ahead, both squads return to league action Sunday afternoon. The Golden Knights will travel to Pace University, while Adelphi plays host to Assumption College. Both games are scheduled to tip at 3:30 pm.
