ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose overcame a frustrating scoreless first half in a match that they dominated throughout with three goals in the second period to upend Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley 3-1 this evening at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (12-0-0/9-0-0 NE-10), ranked #1 for the fourth consecutive week according to the most recent NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II Poll, outshot the visiting Falcons (0-9-2/0-7-2 NE-10) by a 29-0 margin and allowed only an own goal to run their season-long win streak to 12 contests.

Prior to the match, head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil was presented a ball by Saint Rose Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Szczerbacki and Athletics Director Cathy Cummings Haker commemorating her 200th victory. Darling Gutheil collected the historic win via last Saturday's 3-1 triumph at Stonehill.

She was then able to punch home number 202 after the Golden Knights struck three times throughout the opening 27 minutes of the second half.

Saint Rose previously launched seven shots-on-goal in the first period with nothing to show for it while the Falcons defended their own third with a 11 players back. However, junior forward Gianna D'Errico thwarted any thought of an upset by lofting a ball from 35-yards out on the right flank that sailed over the head of Bentley senior keeper Kara Smith and just beyond the end line before twisting the net with 49:38 elapsed.

Fourteen minutes later, sophomore back Molly Harpster slipped a pass through the center of the box that freshman forward Carmelina Puopolo corralled, before firing a shot that rattled off the crossbar and into the goal for what proved to be the game-winner.

Bentley then had its deficit cut in half when a Saint Rose miscommunication in the back allowed the ball to roll harmlessly into the net at the 70:58 mark. It was about the only thing that did not go right all evening for the Golden Knights, who boosted their cushion back to a pair just over a minute later when junior midfielder Derith Fernandes redirected a shot off the foot of fellow junior midfielder Aoife Herbert.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose plays the first of two consecutive road matches Sunday when the Golden Knights head to Saint Anselm for a 3:30 pm league affair in Manchester, NH. The Falcons are also back on the pitch Sunday when they entertain conference rival Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 pm in Waltham, MA.
