#1 SAINT ROSE STRIKES EARLY TO PUT AWAY PACE 3-0

Freshman forward Sydney Bond recorded the sixth strike of her young career that was also today's game-winner
BRIARCLIFF, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team scored three times throughout a 24-minute span in the first period, including one tally with 35 seconds until intermission, en route to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Pace University today. The Golden Knights (11-0/8-0 NE-10), who are atop the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II Poll for the fourth straight week, have now chalked up seven shutouts in 11 contests this year.

Senior midfielder Amanda Deck set up two goals, including what proved to be the game-winner, while freshmen forwards Sydney Bond and Carmelina Puopolo each registered their sixth goals of the year for the Golden Knights.

Sophomore midfielder Alayna Shaw also found the back of the net for Saint Rose.

Meanwhile, senior keeper Deanna Esposito and sophomore keeper Susan Cowan each played a half in goal but were not forced to make a save while preserving another clean sheet for the Golden Knights. The Setters (3-8/1-8 NE-10) received three saves in each period from sophomore netminders Courtany Hagen and Jaclyn Drummond.

Bond put Saint Rose on the scoreboard in the 21st minute after converting a feed from Deck. Deck then got Puopolo into scoring position seven minutes later to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

It appeared the Golden Knights would take a 2-0 lead at the break although they manufactured a 7-3 shot advantage up to that point. Shaw then put Saint Rose in the catbird seat at the 44:25 mark after burying her second strike of the season.

Both clubs return to action Friday with a pair of league games on the schedule. The Golden Knights are set to host Bentley University at 5:00 pm at Sullivan Field, while Pace welcomes Merrimack College for a 3:30 pm kick off.
