GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER 2-0 SETBACK IN SEASON FINALE

Junior keeper Patrik Ohlsson made six saves in the second half throughout today's setback to NE-10 rival Stonehill.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose had its 2010 season come to an end today with a 2-0 setback to Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill at Sullivan Field at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex. The visiting Skyhawks (7-7-2/5-6-2 NE-10) scored once in each half to remain in contention for an NE-10 postseason berth. The conference slate is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.

Sophomore forward Anthony Campagnano, out of Guilderland High School, celebrated his homecoming by scoring the game-winner with 15:37 elapsed. Junior forward Michael White added an insurance strike at the 76:11 mark.

Junior keeper Patrik Ohlsson made seven saves, including six in the second period, to keep the Golden Knights (1-16-1/0-13-0 NE-10) within striking distance throughout the late blustery afternoon. At the other end, senior Brandon McFarlane recorded two saves in the final period for the Skyhawks (7-7-2/5-6-2 NE-10).

Stonehill set the tone by engineering a pair of shots in the opening 10 minutes, before Campagnano struck off a set piece when he fired a shot from just beyond the left of the penalty area that found the lower right corner.

The Skyhawks then outshot Saint Rose 8-2 the rest of the half although Saint Rose nearly drew even when senior midfielder Mark Quinn collected a feed from freshman midfielder Stephen Richardson and struck a low drive that whistled just wide of the left post. It thus remained a 1-0 affair at intermission.

Stonehill kept up the pressure throughout the opening 20 minutes of the second stanza, but Ohlsson made a diving save to his left with 62:15 gone and then came up with a stop at his doorstep 11 minutes later that afforded Saint Rose some momentum.

However, the Skyhawks answered in decisive fashion when sophomore back Kristopher Brassard  made a run up the middle and delivered a feed to White who subsequently blistered a strike from 30-yards out on the right flank that wove its way through traffic and sailed into the lower near corner.

Overall, Stonehill out shot Saint Rose by a 19-7 margin and also generated a 10-2 differential in shots on target.
