GOLDEN KNIGHTS STRIKE FIRST, BUT FALL AT LE MOYNE

Freshman midfielder Jacob Sand put the Golden Knights up 1-0 in the first half during today's setback at Le Moyne.
SYRACUSE – The College of Saint Rose put itself up 1-0 midway through the first half, but host Le Moyne scored three minutes later and four more times throughout the second stanza to hand the Golden Knights a 5-1 Northeast-10 Conference setback this afternoon.

Each team recorded seven shots during the opening 45 minutes, but the Dolphins (8-5-3/7-3-2 NE-10) generated a 12-7 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks throughout the decisive second half.

Freshman keeper Matthew Silva recorded four of his six saves in that span to help the Le Moyne cause. Meanwhile, freshman Alexander Parent had a pair of saves in only his second career appearance between the posts for Saint Rose.

Le Moyne had three players account for most of its offensive production. Freshman forward Michael Spadine and senior forward Angelo Reina each scored twice, while another freshman striker in Emmanuel Chanelo had a goal and an assist.

Regardless, the Dolphins initially had to play from behind after freshman midfielder Jacob Sand  finished from the right edge of the penalty area with 21:19 gone to make it 1-0 Saint Rose (1-15-1/0-12-0 NE-10). However, Spadine countered less than three minutes later to make it 1-1 at intermission.

Le Moyne then quickly removed any doubt of a potential upset. Reina finished a Chanelo cross less than two into minutes into the second half to account for the game-winner. Two minutes after that, Spidane added an insurance marker. Reina and Chanelo then scored in the final 13 minutes to break it open.

Looking ahead, both squads will conclude the 2010 regular-season portion of their schedules versus conference rival Stonehill this weekend. The Golden Knights will host the Skyhawks on Friday at 4:00 pm, while the Dolphins will entertain them Saturday at 1:00 pm.
