ALBANY – Saint Thomas Aquinas scored once in each half to hand The College of Saint Rose a 2-0 non-conference setback at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex tonight. The Spartans (12-1-1) manufactured a 21-6 shot advantage and produced eight corner kicks, while yielding only two, to run their win streak to four matches.
Junior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson recorded a season-high nine saves, including three diving stops in the first half, to keep the Golden Knights (1-13-1) within striking distance.
However, St. Thomas Aquinas afforded itself an early advantage when sophomore forward Brendan Flynn headed home a corner that sophomore midfielder Sean Reily delivered from the right flag with 10:23 elapsed. Sophomore forward Daniel Davren then set up an insurance strike at the 74:24 mark when he sent a low cross from the left end line that junior midfielder Remington Lee ran onto and one-timed inside the right post.
Saint Rose did not go quietly though. Freshman back
Alan McGrath created a pair of quality chances inside the box throughout the final 10 minutes, but junior keeper Andrew Tartara was equal to task on both occasions to preserve the Spartans' fourth shutout of the year.
Looking ahead, the two teams are scheduled to return back to their respective league dockets Saturday. The Golden Knights are set to host Northeast-10 Conference rival UMass Lowell at 1:00 pm, while Saint Thomas Aquinas has a 2:30 pm meeting with visiting East Coast Conference foe Molloy.
