SPRINGFIELD, MA – American International College broke open a 1-0 ballgame at the break with a pair of strikes just 1:16 apart early in the second period on the way to a 4-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team tonight. In the process, the Yellow Jackets (6-6-1/4-4-1 NE-10) snapped a mild two-game skid, while the Golden Knights (1-10-1/0-9-0 NE-10) are still seeking their first road and league win of the year.
Junior forward Thomas Denomme and senior forward Sean Stevenson did most of the damage for AIC. Denomme finished with two goals and an assist, while Stevenson added his team-leading fifth and sixth markers of the year.
Denomme got the Yellow Jackets on the board in the 27th minute with what stood as the game-winner although Saint Rose went into the locker room down only 1-0 at intermission. Stevenson then gave AIC a comfortable 3-0 cushion with back-to-back strikes within the first six minutes of the second half. Denomme added some insurance of his own in the 63rd to close out the scoring.
The Golden Knights received seven saves from junior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson, who played all 90 minutes between the posts. AIC junior keeper James Taber wound up with three saves throughout the first 69:47 before giving way to freshman keeper Jeremy Nash, who collected one stop over the final 20:13.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to action Thursday night when the Golden Knights host New York Institute of Technology for a 6:30 pm non-league affair at Sullivan Field. Fans may view the contest by visiting
