SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE HANDS SAINT ROSE A 4-1 SETBACK

Junior midfielder Liam Barrett accounted for the Golden Knights lone strike in today's 4-1 setback to Southern Connecticut State.
ALBANY – Southern Connecticut State tallied two goals in each half around a lone marker for The College of Saint Rose to hand the Golden Knights a 4-1 setback in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter this afternoon at The Albany Academies. The Owls (7-2-1/4-1-1 NE-10) are now unbeaten in eight of their last nine outings, while Saint Rose (2-8-0/1-5-0 NE-10) suffered its fourth consecutive loss following a contest in which both teams were awarded penalty kicks.

Junior midfielder Liam Barrett accounted for the lone Saint Rose score when he converted a PK in the opening two minutes off the second stanza. Sophomore midfielder Paul Templeton tallied a pair of goals for Southern Connecticut State, including the Owls' PK, while freshman forward Harry Appiah picked up two assists.

Sophomore forward Cedric Panzu struck for what held up as the game-winner in the 30th minute when he deflected home a hard, low feed from Appiah that whistled across the left side of the box. Six minutes earlier, Templeton made it 1-0 Southern Connecticut State when he volleyed a 20-yard direct kick from outside the center of the box that sailed inside the top-left corner.

Barrett and Templeton then exchanged PK's during the opening 20 minutes of the second period, before the Owls added their finally tally in the 87th minute. Appiah let go a strike from 15-yards out that ricocheted off the right post to an awaiting freshman forward Seth Ragaini who redirected into the back of the net.

Sophomore keeper Patrik Ohlsson recorded five saves for the Golden Knights, while Southern Connecticut State sophomore Andrew Esposito turned aside three shots on target.

Up next, both clubs are home for conference matches Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Bentley at 1:00 pm, while the Owls are set to entertain Franklin Pierce at 7:00 pm.
