ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose registered its sixth shutout of the year to remain unbeaten at the midway point of its 18-game regular-season schedule with a 1-0 victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm today at The Albany Academies. The Golden Knights (9-0-0/6-0-0 NE-10), ranked #3 for the third consecutive week in the latest
NSCAA/Adidas Division II Poll, have now blanked each of their last three opponents and own a 20-3 goal scoring differential on the year.
Saint Rose controlled much of the play on a cool and breezy afternoon, especially throughout the final 45 minutes when the Golden Knights outshot the visiting Hawks by a 15-2 margin.
Sophomore forward Nicola D'Errico provided the difference when she knocked home a feed from her twin sister Gianna D'Errico in the ninth minute. Gianna D'Errico came up with a ball near the right-side of the box and delivered a pass that Nicola D'Errico finished for what proved to be game's lone strike.
Junior keeper
Deanna Esposito collected the victory behind two saves in the first half, before being relieved by sophomore
Susan Cowan following intermission. For Saint Anselm, junior Jacqueline Cooney turned aside nine Saint Rose shots on target, including four throughout the final 10 minutes when the Golden Knights swarmed the area searching for an insurance marker.
Saint Rose came close on several occasions. After sophomore midfielder
Brittany Godin whistled a shot off the cross bar in the 63rd minute, junior midfielder
Kristen Bidosky and Gianna D'Errico were both denied by Cooney on the same possession with less than nine minutes remaining. Senior midfielder
Lizzie Shegda then sailed a shot over the crossbar in the 87th minute.
Up next, the Golden Knights travel to Southern Connecticut State Wednesday for a 7:00 pm NE-10 date in New Haven. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm has a week to prepare for next Saturday's 1:00 home league encounter versus Adelphi.
