ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose kept its unblemished record intact with an impressive 2-0 non-conference victory against visiting C.W. Post this afternoon at The Albany Academies. The contest featured a pair of clubs with legitimate postseason aspirations and also marked the first time throughout eight meetings, dating back to 1994, that the Golden Knights (8-0-0) defeated the Pioneers (5-2-1).
Saint Rose, ranked #3 for the third consecutive week according to the latest
NSCAA/Adidas Division II poll, scored twice in the second half while outshooting C.W Post by an 8-1 margin during that span to secure the win.
Junior midfielder
Amanda Deck registered what held up as the game-winner on a direct kick with 57:37 elapsed in the contest. Deck rifled a shot from 25-yards out on the right flank around a wall and inside the near post. Twenty-three minutes later, sophomore midfielder
Brittany Godin gathered a loose ball and drove it into an empty net following a C.W. Post miscommunication in the box.
Junior keeper
Deanna Esposito recorded five saves, all in the first half, en route to her first clean sheet in a Saint Rose uniform. Freshman Nicole Fierro also turned aside five shots-on-goal for the Pioneers.
The opening period was fairly evenly played although C.W. Post had the best opportunity to get on the board when junior forward Qaroline Nahl ran onto a through ball and dribbled in alone on Esposito. However, Esposito held her ground and made a diving save to her left to keep the game scoreless.
In the second half, the Golden Knights generated the majority of threats including a goal that was nullified on an offsides call in the 61st minute. Deck later let go a shot from outside the top of the box that skimmed off the left post.
Up next, the Golden Knights are scheduled to return to league action Saturday with a 2:00 pm home match versus Saint Anselm. Meanwhile, the Pioneers have another non-conference game with a noon date at Caldwell College in New Jersey on Saturday.
