NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Host Merrimack College swept all three doubles matches and took five of six singles meetings en route to an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory over The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team this afternoon at North Andover High School. In the process, the Warriors (1-2/1-1 NE-10) picked up their first win of the 2009 campaign.
Sophomore
Erin Reeg notched the lone triumph of the day for the Golden Knights (0-3/0-2 NE-10). Reeg defeated Allison Lydon 6-3, 6-1 from the fifth singles position to get Saint Rose on the board.
In other singles action, senior Cristina Lucin chalked up a win via a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Saint Rose freshman
Jennifer Crego at #1 singles. Meanwhile, senior Caitlin Dunn handed junior
Missy Leighton a 6-3, 6-2 setback at second singles.
In doubles play, Dunn and junior Amanda Carroll came away with an 8-1 win over Leighton and sophomore
Nicole Terribile. Additionally, Lucin and sophomore Courtney Garvey wound up with an 8-0 victory over Reeg and junior
Kimberly Schacher in the second doubles spot.
The Golden Knights will attempt to snap a three-match skid Wednesday when they travel to Bentley University for a 3:30 pm league match. Merrimack is scheduled to host the University of New Haven next Sunday at 12:00 pm.
