SAINT ROSE UPENDS POST IN 2009 HOME OPENER

Sophomore outside hitter Marilyn Glamack chalked up 10 kills, hit .600 and picked up 16 digs in tonight's 3-0 sweep
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team opened its 2009 home slate in exciting fashion, sweeping a non-conference match versus Post University 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-19) at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (2-0) hit an impressive .378 for the match, chalking up 39 kills and only eight errors.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs led the offensive onslaught for Saint Rose with 11 kills to go with a .421 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, sophomore outside hitter Marilyn Glamack provided a solid all-around effort with 10 kills, a .600 hitting percentage and 16 digs.

Additionally, senior libero Mary German handled the setting duties for the second consecutive night and tied her career-high with 17 assists. Freshman outside hitter Kayleigh Quinn also came off the bench to pick up eight digs, three kills and a pair of blocks.

The Eagles (0-1), who were competing in their 2009 season-opener tonight, received nine digs, three kills and two aces from freshman outside hitter Kelly Hayes. Sophomore setter Taylor Doyle ran the offense, handing out 12 assists and also coming up with five digs while freshman outside hitter Aubrey Latham contributed five digs and four kills respectively.

Following a Golden Knights' timeout in the opening set, Saint Rose embarked on a 19-5 run that transformed a 6-6 tie into the final 25-11 margin. Kahrs punctuated things by registering her seventh kill of the first set off a feed from German.

The second frame was much like the previous as Post junior outside hitter Teresa Hodges connected on an ace to knot things at 5-5. However, the Golden Knights outscored the Eagles 20-6 the rest of the way to come away with a similar 25-11 decision. Kahrs again sealed the set, this time converting a pass from sophomore setter Theresa Staulo

The third set remained close throughout. Post cut its deficit to two, 21-19, following a kill by senior middle hitter Nicole Gizzi. Saint Rose answered with four straight points, two coming via kills by Quinn to keep its unblemished record intact.

The Golden Knights head to the Dutch Country Spiketacular that is being hosted by Millersville University this Saturday. The Golden Knights will play three matches beginning with an 11:00 am meeting versus Bowie State. Saint Rose is scheduled to take on the host Marauders at 1:00 pm before concluding its day with a 3:00 pm match-up against Wilmington University (DE). Post returns to action Sunday with a tri-match of its own at Saint Anselm College. The first encounter of the day is slated for 10:00 am in Manchester, NH.
