WEST HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team tallied once in each half en route to a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory at the University of New Haven this afternoon. In the process, Saint Rose (2-4/1-2 NE-10) snapped a four-game losing streak and kept the Chargers (1-4/0-4 NE-10) winless throughout their first four league contests.
Sophomore forward
Taras Panchishak provided the game-winner for the Golden Knights on his first tally of the year at the 49:47 mark. Panchishak flicked home a header past New Haven sophomore keeper Jonathan Creem, which came off one of 10 corner kicks in the match for Saint Rose. Junior midfielder
Liam Barrett chalked up his team-leading fourth assist of the season by delivering the corner.
The Golden Knights wasted no time getting on the board as junior back
Johan Lewton recorded his first marker in a Saint Rose uniform just 9:01 into the game to put the Golden Knights in front 1-0. However, the Chargers answered eight minutes later on a strike from sophomore forward Anthony Romano to knot things at 1-1.
Following the Golden Knights' go-ahead goal, Saint Rose buckled down defensively. Sophomore keeper
Patrik Ohlsson did not need to make a save throughout the final 45 minutes. Meanwhile, New Haven was limited to just two shots during that span. Ohlsson wound up with two saves in the first half and Creem contributed three saves for the Chargers.
The Golden Knights return home for a league match versus Merrimack College Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm at The Albany Academies. New Haven will try to snap its four-game conference losing streak when it visits Franklin Pierce University at 7:00 pm Saturday.
