EASTON, MA – The College of Saint Rose chalked up a 2-0 victory this afternoon against Concordia in its 2009 season opener during the first day of action at the Skyhawk Kickoff Classic that is being hosted by Stonehill College.
A pair of freshman accounted for the two Saint Rose (1-0) tallies as defender
Jim Santamarina netted what held up as the game-winner at the 14:30 mark, before fellow rookie back
Patrick McCormack added an insurance marker five minutes later.
Junior midfielder
Liam Barrett set up both goals, while sophomore keeper
Patrik Ohlsson came up with three saves on the way to his first career shutout in a Golden Knights uniform. Senior midfielder
Justin Paden also picked up an assist on Santamarina's marker.
Santamarina flicked home a drive from a touched free kick and then McCormack headed a volley from Barrett into the top-far post to account for the scoring.
Concordia junior goalkeeper Will Camerlingo kept the Clippers (0-1) in the match with seven saves, including one on a penalty shot by Barrett that would have put Saint Rose up by three goals.
The Golden Knights resume action in the tournament's final day tomorrow with a 10:00 am match versus Felician. Meanwhile, Concordia will meet Stonehill at noon.
