WORCESTER, MA – Junior catcher
Amanda Morano belted a pair of solo shots and freshman right fielder
Jessica Butterbrodt hit her first career home run to lead The College of Saint Rose softball team to a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Assumption College this afternoon. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed.
The Golden Knights (12-21/8-15 NE-10) have now won five of their last six games, while the Greyhounds (15-22/9-12 NE-10) have dropped six straight.
Morano led off the second and fourth innings with her fifth and sixth homers of the year to put Saint Rose on top 2-0. Butterbrodt then started the fifth with her first collegiate round-tripper that gave the Golden Knights a comfortable 3-0 edge.
Assumption answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth when junior center fielder Meghan DiVitto walked and junior catcher Erin Murphy followed with a two-run home run to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
Saint Rose senior right-hander
Nicole Welch then retired six of the next seven batters to secure her seventh win of the season. Welch scattered three hits over the distance, struck out four and walked one while facing four batters over the minimum.
Morano wound up 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Butterbrodt finished 1-for-2 with a run and RBI. Additionally, senior first baseman
Katie Wiemann extended her hit streak to nine games with a single to center field in the sixth.
The Golden Knights return to action Saturday when they head to Saint Anselm College for a 1:00 pm league twin-bill in Manchester, NH. Assumption is scheduled to travel to Southern New Hampshire University Thursday for a 3:00 pm NE-10 doubleheader.
