GOLDEN KNIGHTS BLANK FRANKLIN PIERCE 9-0

Sophomore Stephanie Paine
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team snapped a three-match skid in a big way this afternoon by upending Franklin Pierce University 9-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Meyers Middle School. The Golden Knights (4-13/3-8 NE-10) overcame a pair of 3-0 deficits throughout the afternoon to secure the sweep.

Saint Rose sophomore Kimberly Schacher and freshman Ericia Edwards trailed juniors Bianca LaPointe and Monica Lavertu 3-0 in third doubles action. However, Schacher and Edwards stormed back to take an 8-4 victory to help the Golden Knights pull out a perfect doubles slate.

In singles play, freshman Nicole Terribile dug herself a 3-0 hole in the first set versus Ravens' freshman Drew Alexander. Terribile clawed back to earn a 6-4, 6-3 triumph from the fifth singles position, while Edwards went the distance in a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Lavertu at sixth singles.

Additionally, sophomore Melissa Leighton and Schacher were both straight set winners in singles action for the Golden Knights.

Saint Rose will play its 2008-09 regular-season finale Wednesday evening when the Golden Knights travel to Saint Michael's College for a 4:00 pm league match. Franklin Pierce is also scheduled to conclude its slate Wednesday afternoon as the Ravens visit Saint Anselm College for a 3:00 pm NE-10 match in Manchester, NH.
