AGUADILLA, PR – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2008-09 campaign with a 5-4 win versus Drew University down in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. However, the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez upended the Golden Knights 9-0 this evening to prevent a perfect opening day of matches.
In the day's first match, the Golden Knights (2-4) received a pair of wins from sophomore
Kimberly Schacher and freshman
Ericia Edwards. Schacher defeated senior Kristin Brown in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at fourth singles, while Edwards put away freshman Rebecca Olderman 6-0, 6-4 in sixth singles action. The duo then teamed up to deliver a critical 8-6 triumph in third doubles play, the lone doubles victory for Saint Rose this morning.
Additionally, sophomore Melissa Leighton and freshman
Nicole Terribile chalked up singles wins to secure the match.
Saint Rose is scheduled to return to action tomorrow with a pair of matches on tap. The Golden Knights square off against Stevens Institute of Technology at 9:00 am, which precedes an 8:30 pm encounter with Central Arkansas.
