MANCHESTER, NH – Host Saint Anselm College remained unbeaten this year on the strength of a 9-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team this afternoon in Manchester, NH. In the process, the Golden Knights dropped their sixth straight decision and remained winless on the road this season.
The Hawks (2-0/2-0 NE-10) opened things with an 8-6 triumph in first doubles play as sophomore Erika Sartor and senior Laura Nason squeaked by Saint Rose junior Rachael O'Brien and sophomore Melissa Leighton. Nason then took care of O'Brien 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, while Sartor came away with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Golden Knights' sophomore
Stephanie Paine in the third singles position.
Saint Rose (2-9/1-4 NE-10) freshman
Nicole Terribile nearly broke up the perfect day for Saint Anselm by pushing sophomore Erin Sullivan to a tiebreaker. However, Sullivan walked away with a 9-8 (7-5) victory to secure the sweep for the Hawks.
The Golden Knights will play their third match in four days Tuesday afternoon in their 2009 home opener. Saint Rose is scheduled to host Assumption College for a 3:00 pm league match. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm will put its unblemished record on the line next Saturday when it welcomes Pace University for a 12:00 pm NE-10 affair.
