KISSIMMEE, FL – The College of Saint Rose softball team had its stay at the Rebel Spring Games come to a close this afternoon in disappointing fashion as Tiffin University upended the Golden Knights 9-0 in game one, while Fayetteville State took a 9-1 decision over Saint Rose in the nightcap.
In game one, Tiffin pushed across five runs in the fourth and freshman Lexie Pinkleman held the Golden Knights (4-6) scoreless throughout their final two at-bats en route to the victory. Pinkleman went the distance for the Dragons, scattering three hits along the way.
Senior outfielder
Cara Piccarreto smacked a double for Saint Rose, while sophomore outfielder
Megan Rios and senior outfielder
Jaime Clark had base hits to account for the Golden Knights' offense.
In game two, Fayetteville State put up seven runs in the first inning thanks to a walk, hit batter, two singles and two Saint Rose errors to put itself in the driver's seat.
Saint Rose managed to get one back in the second. Senior outfielder
Kerry Monahan and sophomore right-hander
Nicole Traylor roped back-to-back singles and Rios followed with an RBI single of her own, but it was all the offense the Golden Knights could muster in the contest.
Traylor went the distance in her first career start, but was not helped by four errors in the game by the Saint Rose defense.
The Golden Knights will begin preparing for their Northeast-10 Conference opener, which is still 12 days away at this juncture. Saint Rose is scheduled to begin league play on March 25 with a 5:00 pm home doubleheader versus Pace University.
