KISSIMMEE, FL – Sophomore designated player
Alyssa Farrell delivered an RBI double in the top of the eighth that plated freshman
Lindsey David and The College of Saint Rose softball team held on to defeat Indianapolis University 3-2 in extra-innings this morning. The Golden Knights (4-4) were unable to complete the sweep this afternoon, however, as Quincy scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to walk away with a 3-0 triumph.
In the opener, Saint Rose rallied from a 2-0 deficit thanks to the bats of Farrell and junior catcher
Amanda Morano. Farrell singled with one out in the sixth and Morano belted a two-run home run to tie things at 2-2.
After a scoreless seventh for both clubs, the Golden Knights took advantage of the international rule format in the top of the eighth. Senior outfielder
Cara Piccarreto sacrificed David to third and Farrell drove her in on the aforementioned double to propel Saint Rose.
Senior right-hander
Tracy Chesebrough came on in relief of fellow senior right-hander
Nicole Welch in the bottom of the sixth and kept the Greyhounds (6-7) off the board for the final three innings to pick up the win.
In game two, Quincy sophomore outfielder Erin Gregory homered in the fourth and the Lady Hawks bunched together three more hits in the fifth that plated a pair of runs to account for all the scoring between the two squads.
The Golden Knights will have a day off tomorrow before closing out their six-day, 10-game stretch on Friday. Saint Rose will meet Tiffin at 9:00 am, which precedes a 1:00 pm showdown with Fayetteville State.
