ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team buried 15-of-18 free throw attempts inside the final two minutes to put away visiting Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm 96-88 this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights (11-11/9-8 NE-10) knocked down 85.3 percent of their attempts from the stripe by converting a season-high 29-of-34 in the contest. Conversely, the Hawks (13-9/8-9 NE-10) went 23-for-32 from the line and were outscored 38-26 by Saint Rose in the paint.

Senior forward Malcolm Williams began the final barrage from the charity stripe by going 1-for-2, thus giving the Golden Knights a nine point, 82-73, lead with 1:41 on the clock. Saint Anselm managed to get to within four on four occasions before the final buzzer, the last time following a 3-pointer at the top of the key from sophomore guard Pat Luptowski that made it a 92-88 affair with 21 seconds left.

Saint Rose junior guard Jermaine Clark then put things out of reach by canning four free throws that sandwiched a key block by senior forward Evan Lane to keep things in check.

Clark led all scorers with 25 points on the strength of an 11-for-12 effort from the foul line. Williams finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while freshman guard Shea Bromirski added 18 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Lane also notched his fifth “double-double” of the year with 15 points and 10 caroms.

The Hawks, who are now 3-8 in their last 11 games after starting the year 10-1, placed four of five starters in twin-figures behind Baudinet's 22 points. Junior guard Greg Vetrano and sophomore forward John Tello tossed in 17 points apiece, while Luptowski contributed 16 points and five boards.

As part of its ongoing community service efforts, the College donated more than $3,400 from today's paid admission towards the fight against cancer. The proceeds will be divided equally among The V Foundation for Cancer Research, The Susan G. Komen Foundation and Camp BraveHearts.

Both Saint Rose and Saint Anselm return to league action this coming Tuesday night. The Golden Knights host upstate and conference rival Le Moyne College in a 7:30 pm contest that will be aired live on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel 3. Former All-American Roger Powers will provide color analysis for the contest. Meanwhile, the Hawks are scheduled to tip at 7:30 pm at Pace University in Pleasantville.
