ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose led wire-to-wire and in the process snapped a three-game skid with a 63-47 victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (4-4/3-4 NE-10) outrebounded the Dolphins by a 42-29 margin, including 15-6 on the offensive glass that led to 15 second chance points as opposed to four by Le Moyne.
Sophomore forward
Ali Johnson tossed in a season-high 14 points, on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor, and pulled down six rebounds to lead Saint Rose. Junior guard
Lynsey Timbrouck had 13 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals, while sophomore guard
Ashley Rath scored 10 of her 12 points after halftime. Junior forward
Amy Voelkel added eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Saint Rose owned a double-digit lead for most of the second half although Le Moyne (1-5/1-5 NE-10) pulled to within eight, 49-41, following a jumper by senior forward Courtney Coryea that capped a 7-1 spurt with 8:29 remaining.
However, the Golden Knights responded with a 9-2 run to go up by 15, 58-43, and furthermore limited the Dolphins to a pair of field goals throughout the final eight minutes to seal the victory.
Coryea paced all scorers with 21 points to go with seven rebounds, while senior guard Muffy Sadler had seven points, seven boards and four assists for the Dolphins.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Saturday for a 3:00 pm non-league game versus Bridgeport. Meanwhile, Le Moyne heads to Mansfield, PA for the Comfort Inn Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Dolphins will meet Slippery Rock on Friday at 5:30 pm, and will then face host Mansfield on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
