BENTLEY HALTS THREE-MATCH WIN STREAK WITH 3-0 WIN OVER GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs recorded nine kills and only three errors in 28 attempts to lead Saint Rose
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team had its three-match win streak come to an end as visiting Bentley University used a balanced attack to deliver a 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 15-25) setback to the Golden Knights in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium tonight. The Falcons (15-11/10-4) had four players register at least five kills and recorded 12.0 total team blocks to stall the Saint Rose attack.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs paced the Golden Knights (15-13/5-9 NE-10) with nine kills. Sophomore setter Theresa Staulo handed out 22 assists to go with five digs and three kills, while senior libero Mary German led the defense with 10 digs.

Bentley senior middle blocker Kristine Mickelson registered eight kills and hit .500 with no errors in 16 total attacks. Meanwhile, junior setter Kelly Mee had a solid all-around performance with 30 assists, three digs, three kills and three blocks.

The first two sets were decided by a combined five points. After Saint Rose jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the Falcons clawed back to knot things at 10-10 following a Mickelson kill. Bentley never trailed again en route to the 25-22 win. The second set was even tighter as German delivered one of her two aces in the match to give the Golden Knights a 23-22 edge. However, Mickelson sandwiched a Saint Rose attack error around a pair of kills to give the Falcons a 25-23 triumph.

Bentley then assumed control by outscoring the Golden Knights 14-6 to begin the third set. Saint Rose responded with a 9-6 run of its own to make it a 20-15 affair, but the Falcons scored five straight points on serve to seal a 25-15 victory.

Saint Rose is set to wrap up its 2009 slate tomorrow afternoon when the Golden Knights welcome Stonehill College for a 1:00 pm NE-10 encounter. Prior to the match, German and senior right side hitter Jaclyn Griffin will be honored as part of the College's “Senior Day” celebration. Bentley will conclude its regular season schedule tomorrow when the Falcons head to Le Moyne College for a 12:00 pm league match in Syracuse.
