GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TO HOT SHOOTING SETTERS

Sophomore guard Ashley Rath led the Golden Knights scoring parade for the fourth time this year in today's setback to Pace.
ALBANY – Pace University shot 50.0 percent (27-for-54) from the floor and 92.3 percent (24-for-26) from the foul line, and in the process held The College of Saint Rose to three field goals throughout the final seven minutes en route to an 85-72 victory against the Golden Knights this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard Ashley Rath led the Saint Rose (3-2/2-2 NE-10) scoring parade for the fourth time this year with 19 points. She also handed out six assists and came down with five rebounds. Junior guard Lynsey Timbrouck finished with a season-high 11 points to go along with seven boards, while sophomore forward Ali Johnson wound up with 11 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Amy Voelkel added seven points, seven rebounds and tied her career-high with five steals.

The Setters (2-2/2-1 NE-10) put themselves in control behind a 22-11 run that bridged the final three minutes of the first half and the opening six minutes of the second period. The jaunt ultimately transformed the game's final tie, 31-31, into an 11 point, 53-42, Pace advantage following a pair of 3-pointers from junior forward Kristin Connolly.

The Golden Knights managed to get back to within six, 68-62, after Timbrouck and Rath knocked down back-to-back treys, but a Connolly 3-pointer at the other end along with a free throw and a conventional three-point play from junior forward Brittany Huggins made it 75-63 Pace with 4:40 remaining. It remained a double-digit ballgame the rest of the way.

Huggins wound up with 26 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench to lead the Setters. Sophomore forward Maral Javadifar finished with 20 points and six boards, while Huggins had 11 points in 17 minutes of reserve duty. Senior forward Taylor Losey added nine points, seven boards and eight assists.

The first half was somewhat of a different story with 12 lead changes and four ties. The Golden Knights were ahead throughout the vast majority of the opening 13 minutes until Javadifar drained a jumper in the paint that made it a 25-24 ballgame and put Pace ahead to stay.

Up next, both teams return to the court Wednesday for 5:30 pm home dates. The Golden Knights will host New Haven, while the Setters are scheduled to entertain Le Moyne in Pleasantville.
