SAINT ROSE RUNS PAST BLOOMFIELD TO OPEN CAMPAIGN ON A HIGH NOTE

Sophomore forward Brian Hanuschak had a career-high 23 points in tonight's victory against Bloomfield.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose held Bloomfield to 32.4 percent (23-for-71) shooting from the floor en route to a 90-62 season-opening victory at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium tonight. The Deacons (0-1) didn't help themselves by shooting a mere 37.5 percent (12-for-32) from the foul line.

Sophomore forward Brian Hanuschak tossed in a career-high 23 points, on 9-for-10 shooting from the floor, and freshman guard Andre Pope mirrored that production in his collegiate debut via 6-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Additionally, sophomore guard Rob Gutierrez added 13 points in 26 minutes off the bench for the Golden Knights, who have now won 13 of their past 15 home-openers.

Saint Rose gained control by virtue of a 10-0 run midway through the opening period that transformed a four point, 21-17 lead into a 14 point, 31-17, advantage with 7:55 left until intermission. Hanuschak accounted for seven of the points via five free throws and a layup.

The Deacons managed to whittle their deficit to 11, 50-39, following a jumper by senior guard Elias Brantley with 14:40 to go in the ballgame, but the Golden Knights responded with nine unanswered points that put them in command, 59-39, with 12:17 remaining.

Junior guard Gage Daye had 20 points and six rebounds, and senior guard Wilson Pilarte finished with 11 points in 17 minutes of reserve duty to lead Bloomfield.

Up next, Saint Rose will open the Northeast-10 Conference portion of its schedule Wednesday with a 7:30 pm date at Assumption in Worcester, MA. Meanwhile, the Deacons have a non-league date Thursday versus California (PA) in Alaska.
