SAINT ROSE RECORDS SECOND STRAIGHT FIVE SET VICTORY WITH 3-2 WIN AT FRANKLIN PIERCE

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs had 14 kills, three aces and six digs in today's 3-2 win at Franklin Pierce.
RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose chalked up a five-set victory for the second time in less than 24 hours with a 3-2 win at Franklin Pierce this afternoon. The Golden Knights (15-12/5-8 NE-10), who defeated Southern New Hampshire in Manchester last night, won the first and third sets by respective 25-21 and 27-25 scores to go up 2-1. They then chalked up a 15-9 win in the finale. The Ravens (7-19/3-9 NE-10) tied it 1-1 by taking the second game 25-23 and then deadlocked it again 2-2 with a 25-19 game four victory.

Junior middle hitter Kelly Ryan came up with a kill that put Saint Rose in the driver's seat, 10-6, in the fifth set. Franklin Pierce forced that game by scoring 11 of the last 16 points following a 14-14 tie in the fourth.

Freshman outside hitter Kayleigh Quinn more than tripled her previous season-high with 21 kills to lead the Saint Rose offense. Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs had an all-around effort with 14 kills, three aces and six digs. Meanwhile, senior right side hitter Jaclyn Griffin wound up with 10 kills and three blocks to help the Golden Knights who have now won five of seven, including three straight.

Furthermore, sophomore setter Theresa Staulo passed out a career-high 54 assists. Senior libero Mary German and sophomore outside hitter Marilyn Glamack spearheaded the defensive effort with 21 and 10 digs respectively.

German came up with an ace at the 14th point that put Saint Rose ahead to stay in the opening set. The Golden Knights then fought off a 21-17 deficit to force ties at 21-21 and 23-23 in the second, but a Franklin Pierce kill coupled with a Saint Rose attack error swung the game in favor of the Ravens. The third set was close throughout, but Glamack came up with an ace at game point for the Golden Knights.

Senior outside hitter Katie Ristow had 10 kills and 13 digs, while senior middle hitter Caitlynn Parnell finished with 11 kills and nine digs to pace Franklin Pierce. Senior middle hitter Megan Feldmeth recorded a team-high 15 kills.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will wrap up the regular-season portion of its 2009 slate with a pair of conference home matches next weekend. The Golden Knights will welcome Bentley to the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium at 7:00 pm Friday. Stonehill then arrives for a 1:00 pm date Saturday. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce will host league rival Le Moyne tomorrow.
