ADELPHI KNOCKS OFF SAINT ROSE TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

Junior Kimberly Schacher teamed up with freshman Jennifer Crego to win at #2 doubles
GARDEN CITY, NY – Host Adelphi University remained unbeaten on the strength of six singles victories in an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference win against The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team this afternoon. The Golden Knights (0-6/0-5 NE-10) came away with their lone triumph of the day in #2 doubles play.

Junior Kimberly Schacher and freshman Jennifer Crego put Saint Rose on the board via an 8-2 decision over senior Tricia Burns and junior Nicole Byrnes. However, the Panthers (5-0/3-0 NE-10) took a pair of close 8-6 decisions in first and third doubles action to put themselves in control.

Adelphi sophomore Carolyn Smith and freshman Michelle Gurda also registered a pair of wins to help the Panthers cause. The duo teamed up to hand Saint Rose junior Missy Leighton and sophomore Erin Reeg an 8-6 setback at #1 doubles.

Smith then handed Schacher a 6-2, 6-1 loss at fourth singles, while Gurda upended sophomore Nicole Terribile 7-5, 6-1 in third singles play.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to close out the fall portion of their 2009-10 slate next Saturday at home when Franklin Pierce University arrives in Albany for a 1:00 pm league match. Meanwhile, Adelphi also returns to action Saturday when the Panthers head to Philadelphia University for a 12:00 pm non-league affair.
